The article " Mudras and Acupuncture, Any connection " has been penned by us considering some of the striking similarities between the concept of Mudras ( some relate to Mudras as the yoga of the Hand or the Fingers ). We hope you understand that these articles / documents have been published on our website to create awareness, stir your interest and enable a better understanding of the concept of Acupuncture / TCM. We regret to inform that we are not in a position to to disperse detailed information about Acupuncture as a Science / Concept as a whole.

Mudras and Acupuncture, any Connection**:

We are sure you must have come across pictures of saints / yogis / holy ppl. etc. and noticed one common feature, most of them hold their hands / finger in a unique manner. The tip of the index finger of the right hand and the tip of the thumb ( right hand ) are lightly pressed against each other and so is the case of the left index finger and the thumb of the left hand.

This unique pose is often referred to as the Gyan Mudra.

Gyan
or Knowledge
as we all know is primarily related to the functioning of the Brain. This Mudra is one of the most important and the most commonly used to nourish the Brain / relax / rejuvenate etc. As you can see from the picture below it's probably the easiest Mudra. There are no restrictions, Gyan Mudra can be done anywhere, anytime. Infact as I am typing this very document / trying to pen words,  I can take few seconds off now and then and do Gyan Mudra. If I have to take a break now and even though for few minutes, as I find my way to the nearest glass of water or take the much needed break I can make a better use of the break by doing Gyan Mudra. Yes, it's that simple and convenient as well.

All of us are also aware of the Crown Chakra located at the top of the head. The concept of Chakras or Energy Points can be found in Hinduism, Asian Cultures, references in Reiki, Mystical - Divination also relates to similar concepts of Chakras or Energy points.

Lets try to relate to the Acupoint GV 20 shown in the above pic. GV 20 or Governing Vessel 20 or Hundred Convergences is one of the important Acupoints, used commonly in indications such as headache, migraine, dizziness, stress, seizures, nervous tension etc.

Gyan Mudra can be related to the stimulation of GV 20 Acupoint in the mini hand system of acupuncture, also TCM does relate to the concept relating to the presence of points on the finger tips. Also Crown Chakra and GV 20 point are located at simlar positions on the head.

GV 20, Gyan Mudra, Crown Chakra do seem to work in similar fashion.
